10 Steps to a successful Move:
1. The first step to making your move go smoothly is to order the right amount of moving boxes and packing supplies. As a good rule of thumb you probably need 10 to 15 moving boxes per room. Also add boxes to the general rule for every five years you have lived in your residence. For example if you have lived in your home for 10 years add 5-6 boxes per room. All of our moving kits are designed specifically for various size moves.
2. Once you have your moving boxes and packing supplies, start packing the items you won't need until after your move is complete. The packing should usually start with the larger boxes and begin with basements, attics and garages. Next move on to the closets, cabinets and shelves. Then the kitchen, bedrooms and all other items.
3. Leave the boxes when packed in the rooms you are packing. Label each box with the room you will want them to go to in your new home. Label boxes with large print and don't be afraid to add as much info on each box as possible. This way you will know which boxes to unpack first.
4. Do not overload your moving boxes! Use smaller moving boxes for heavier items and larger moving boxes for lighter items. Make sure to fill the boxes as full as you can and mix in towels, cloths, and blankets to keep the items secure.
a half full moving box is much more likely to get damaged than a moving box that is full.
5. If you are running low on moving boxes or packing supplies get more. It is better to get more moving boxes than to overstuff or cram items into the wrong size box.
6. We sell many differnet size boxes, here is what should be packed in each size moving box.
Small moving boxes(16"x12"x10)- Books, dishes, silverware, magazines, trinkets, small decorations, small tools, and any fragile items.
medium moving boxes(18"x18"x16")- cloths, small lamps, small appliances, decorations, statues, hats, and general items.
large moving boxes(18"x18"x22")- lamps, cloths, sweatshirts, jackets, blankets, tools, games, toys.
X-large moving boxes(24"x24"x22")- Games, toys, pillows, comforters, lamps, lights, large decorations, pots, pans, pictures.
Wardrobe boxes, picture boxes, dishpacks, glass packs are also available for those specialty items.
7. When loading you moving boxes in a truck, if you are moving yourself, load each size together. This will save room in your truck and keep the boxes from moving. Load your boxes first then other items.
8. Moving in to your new home. Once you have everything unloaded, empty each box and use a box cutter to flatten down the boxes. This will save time later and keep your new home organized. It is also recommended to have a good plan for where you want everything before unpacking. Moving is hard enough to do once, you don't want to move everything twice.
9. Save a lot of your moving boxes for storage. You will need boxes for storing many of the items you move. Keep as many moving boxes as you can store for future use.
10. Clean up. All of our moving boxes are made from recycled materials and recycleable again. Therefore stackup the boxes you no longer need and put out for the recycle bin.
